Nepal, China Finance Ministers Pledge to Enhance Cooperation

Kathmandu: Finance Minister Dr. Prakasharan Mahat and his Chinese counterpart, Finance Minister Liu Kun, recently held a significant meeting during the G-20 gathering in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. The two ministers engaged in discussions on various matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations, as confirmed by Dr. Mahat's Secretariat.

During the meeting, both ministers acknowledged the importance of considering each other's interests and concerns, emphasizing the sensitivity of the relationship between their nations. Dr. Mahat extended his gratitude to China for its continuous support and assistance in Nepal's development endeavors.

An essential point of discussion was the commitment of aid made by the President of China during his visit to Nepal in 2019. The finance ministers exchanged views on the progress and implementation of these aid projects.

Minister Dr. Mahat expressed his belief that funding projects aimed at improving road connectivity between Nepal and China's crucial transit points could be a significant area of assistance. He encouraged both countries' relevant agencies to conduct thorough preparations and expedite the implementation process. Additionally, Dr. Mahat expressed hope for the timely execution of the Tokha-Chhahre tunnel construction project.

In response, Chinese Finance Minister Kun reiterated China's commitment to supporting Nepal's development. He expressed his confidence that cooperation projects between the two nations would be promptly implemented.

The meeting between Finance Minister Dr. Mahat and Finance Minister Kun signifies a continuation of positive dialogue and cooperation between Nepal and China. Both countries' dedication to fostering strong bilateral relations and enhancing developmental assistance is evident, and they remain optimistic about the timely completion of crucial projects aimed at improving connectivity and infrastructure.
